Fantastic Home Remedies For Skin Tags That Can Keep The Doctor Away

Worried Woman

Although not a pretty sight to look at, the growths are more of a cosmetic concern than anything else. They tend to hang off the skin and are quite common. So common and harmless in fact that doctors often suggest a skin tag removal home remedy like we will list below.

What exactly is a Skin Tag?

Skin tags are commonly found around the parts of the body where the skin folds including the neck, the armpit, the groin region, under the breasts and the buttocks. It’s also possible to find them on the eyelids. They are made out of collagen fiber that is covered with skin. They also have a number of blood vessels in them.

Although the exact mechanism behind their appearance is not understood, it is safe to say that they appear on the areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing. They have been found to be more common in women, obese people, pregnant women and older people.

Seeing a Doctor vs. Skin Tag Home Remedies

Although it’s generally a good idea to visit a doctor if you notice any changes on your skin, skin tags rarely require the attention of a medical professional. Actually, only the larger ones have to be removed by a doctor. In the cases of smaller ones, a doctor can advise you how to remove your skin tags using home remedies.

That being said, it should be mentioned that you shouldn’t try most of the methods a doctor might use to remove a skin tag, at home. These methods include cutting it off with sterile scissors or a scalpel, freezing it off or burning it off.  Cutting it off may lead to infection and the other two methods may damage the surrounding tissue. All of them can leave you with a scar, if not done properly. It is best to use the following remedies to take care of them safely.

Home Remedies from Your Fridge

Let’s start with the most basic natural home remedy for skin tags – fruit and vegetable juice and banana peels.

Lemon and pineapple are among the fruits that can be used as a remedy. The acids that arePineapple contained in the juice will eventually break down the cells of the skin tag and it will simply fade away. To make the most of this method, you should apply the juice on the skin tag two or three times per day, consistently. Do not rinse the juice off, leave it to dry out. After a few days, the skin tag will start to change and eventually it will disappear.

Garlic and onion juice will do the same, but they have a big drawback – the smell. You can still apply them to the skin tag overnight and cover the area while you sleep. This should be repeated until the tag is completely gone.

A banana peel, surprising to many, also works. A small piece of the peel should be placed over the skin tag so that the inside of the peel touches the skin. It should be secured by a bandage, so it doesn’t move, and then be left overnight. This should be repeated until the skin tag is gone.

The Best Bet of the Home Remedies

Tea tree oil and apple cider vinegar are probably the most effective natural skin tag remedies, which are also used for other skin conditions. They are used in more or less the same way for skin tags as other applications– the tag and the area around it should be thoroughly cleaned first. After that, a few drops of either tea tree oil or apple cider vinegar are applied to a cotton ball which is then used to rub the skin tag and the area closest to it in a circular motion. This should be done three times a day until the skin tag is completely gone.

Note that if the tea tree oil irritates the skin too much, you can dilute it with water before applying it to the area.

Cutting the Blood Supply to the Skin Tag

There are two home remedies for skin tags that work by cutting off the blood supply using ligation and duct tape. Yes, duct tape.

To ligate the skin tag, you only need to tie a piece of dental floss around its root. This will effectively cut off the blood supply and it will wither away in time. Duct tape, on the other hand, is applied over the skin tag and left there until it falls off or becomes loose. If the skin tag is still there, another piece of duct tape should be applied until the tag dies off.

Happy WomanSimilar to the duct tape method, vitamin E can be used in conjunction with a band aid. The vitamin is first applied to the skin tag, then it is covered with a band aid. Again leave it covered until the skin tag is gone.

If you find a skin tag hiding somewhere on your body, you need not panic. You can try a combination of methods to find which works the best for you. If you are consistent using home remedies for skin tags, you will be tag free in no time.
